Taking your driving test in Swansea
So you’re finally ready to take the driving test. Congratulations! Before you head out on your big day, check that you have your provisional. Then, make sure you get to Swansea test centre 10 minutes before your appointment. Once you meet your examiner, your test will follow this straightforward structure:
- An eyesight test, where you’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres
- Two “show me, tell me” questions covering vehicle safety and maintenance
- Twenty minutes of general driving, where you’ll be guided by the examiner, and will also need to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
- Parallel parking
- Bay parking
- Pulling up on the right
- Twenty minutes of independent driving, during which you’ll either follow sat nav directions or sign posts to reach a set destination

Your Driving Lessons in Swansea
At Bennetts we start you off in “nursery locations” on quiet housing estates near to where you live. We proceed to busier junctions, roundabouts, traffic control, double carriageways and rural roadways at a speed which matches you. Expect to carry out a reverse manoeuvre exercise and perhaps an emergency stop (1 in 3 tests only) on the test, which lasts around 35 – 40 minutes.
Whatever level of driver you are, your Bennetts driving trainer will start your lessons in an area in which you can deal with the traffic conditions. There are dozens of estates in Swansea where your early lessons can begin. You will practice in both metropolitan and rural areas and a range of roadway types: single and dual carriageways, one-way streets, and the Swansea inner and external ring roadways.
