Build confidence on motorways, at night and in all weathers with patient, DVSA-registered instructors throughout Gloucester and Stroud.
Call Now: 0333 321 8989Pass Plus lessons in Gloucester are for drivers who have already passed their test and want more confidence on the roads the test doesn’t always cover. Passing is a big step, but nobody tests you on a wet motorway at night, and that’s often where new drivers feel least sure. Pass Plus is a practical course of at least six hours, with an instructor beside you while you build up to it.
The course covers six areas: driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways. Around Gloucester, that can mean building up to the M5 at Junctions 11 and 12 with dual controls under your instructor’s feet, rather than tackling it alone for the first time. We’ll go at your pace and spend longer on whatever you’re least sure about, while making sure all six areas are covered. Each session starts with a quick chat about how your driving is going, so we know where to focus.
Pass Plus is just one of the things we teach. If you’re still learning, or know someone who is, you can see all of our Gloucester lessons in one place. Evening lessons are available at no extra charge, so Pass Plus can fit around work.
Every instructor is DVSA-approved or DVSA-registered and CRB/DBS checked, and lessons are in dual-controlled cars, which matters most the first time you try motorway speeds.
You’ll cover all six Pass Plus areas, and we’ll spend longer on whichever ones feel least comfortable.
Motorway practice on the M5 near Junctions 11 and 12, plus the rural roads and dual carriageways around Gloucester, so you practise on the kind of roads you will actually be driving.
Finishing Pass Plus may help you get a car insurance discount, although it’s up to your insurer. See GOV.UK’s Pass Plus guide, then ask them before you book.
Busy town driving means heavier traffic, tighter junctions and more people around you. We’ll work on staying calm, planning ahead and reading what’s happening around the car.
Rain, fog, ice and low sun each change how a car handles and how far you can see. We’ll cover how to adjust your driving, and the weather on the day shapes the lesson.
Narrow, winding country roads with few markings are a different challenge to town streets. We’ll practise on the quieter roads out in the Gloucestershire countryside, so you get used to bends you can’t see round and meeting traffic on narrow roads.
Judging speed and distance is harder in the dark. We’ll cover using your lights, dealing with glare from oncoming traffic and staying relaxed on unlit roads.
Higher speeds, faster joining and more lanes to keep track of. We’ll build up to it steadily so it feels like a normal part of driving.
Joining, lane discipline and sustained higher speeds, with the M5 close by and an instructor and dual controls beside you, so you’re never on your own the first time. Afterwards we’ll talk through how it went and what to keep practising.
Bennetts Driving School has been teaching in Gloucester since 1982, when Michael Bennett set it up as the only instructor. It’s still family-run and still based here.
Pass Plus is taught by instructors registered with the DVSA, in dual-controlled cars. You don’t have to have learned with us, and anyone with a full licence can take the course, although it’s most useful in the year after you pass.
If you’d rather learn with a male or female instructor, tell us when you book and we’ll do our best to arrange it, subject to availability.
Pass Plus is a practical training course for drivers who have already passed their test. It takes at least six hours and covers six areas: town driving, all weathers, rural roads, night driving, dual carriageways and motorways.
No. You’re assessed as you go, and you need to reach the required standard in all six areas to complete the course.
Anyone with a full licence can take it, but it’s most useful in the year after you pass, while you’re still building experience. If you passed some time ago and feel nervous about motorways or night driving, it can help then too.
It may. Some insurers offer a discount to drivers who complete the course, but it’s up to each insurer, so check with yours before you book.
Pass Plus is open to any driver with a full licence, so you don’t need to have learned with us. Get in touch and we’ll confirm availability in your part of Gloucester.
Call us on 0333 321 8989 and we’ll arrange your first session. We’ll ask which areas you feel least confident about, so we can plan the course around you.
